Ima & Ashik Shaker are the heads of South East Asia’s favourite Spartan family. You’ll see them at every race in the festival area with huge smiles shouting words of encouragement and cheering on all the other athletes, on the course they’re both great AG racers and don’t lose that spirit even when times get tough. They both, alongside mini Shakers Hera & Jada, regularly referee and volunteer at races to keep you all safe and ensure the right people win. We’re proud to consider the Shakers our friends and be able to feature them for this weeks Fit Friend Friday.
Name: Ima & Ashik Shaker
Age: 111yrs young :)
How did you first get in to OCR?
Hera and Jada saw a Spartan Race AD on TV in 2015. The plan was to race as a Family because Ima was inactive and hated the outdoors.
Ahsik led the family workouts together and we completed our first Spartan Kids Race and Spartan Sprint 2016 in Singapore.
That also started the rest of the Shaker’s Family Spartan Adventures Series 💪🏼😂
What is your favourite race or OCR experience?
We have a lot of favourite and wonderful experiences...
1. We’re able to plan family travel / vacation around the races.
2. We got to spend quality time and experience different culture and food overseas.
3. Catching up with the Amazing Spartan Community.
4. Witnessed new milestones unlocked, failure, laughter and tears at every race every single time.
Favourite obstacle?
Ahsik: Twister & Herc Hoist as his failure rate is very high 🥴
Ima: Fire Jump 🔥(I made it to the end!)
Biggest achievement?
As a family, we achieved many great things together. From changing our lifestyle, choosing healthier meals option, working out, bonding with the OCR community, attained amazing race results and many more. What we aspire to achieve more is to inspire many families to sign up and complete any OCR race together.
